This isn’t a long post because I think this issue is clear. Refined sugar just has no place in a healthy diet. It has no nutritional value. Products that are made with it are usually low in nutrients and high in calories. That is not to say that carbohydrates themselves are bad or that even natural sugar is bad. The refining process actually takes out nutrients that exist in sugar-cane.

What can be said is that refined sugar is useless, if not detrimental to your health. The mainstream diets usually agree on the topic of refined sugar, namely Sugar Busters. Sugar is behind obesity, diabetes, and tooth decay. Therefore, it would be wise to eliminate as much refined sugar as possible from a diet for optimal health. How does sugar fit into my diet? Paleolithic Era humans just didn’t have access to refined sugar at all, while the average American eats five pounds of sugar a month. I can’t justify even eating refined sugar. It’s gone. I’m setting a goal now: I won’t eat refined sugar for the month of July. After July, I will evaluate that experiment to see if I can maintain that easily enough. In no case will I continue to eat the same amount of refined sugar as I have in the past. Just the other day, I got a huge soda and ate a whole bag of Reese’s Pieces. And afterwards I felt like a zombie. It just makes me feel terrible.

When I started, I didn’t automatically exclude refined sugar from my diet. And why not? Because I am weak. :( Yes, that’s right. I guess I am, like the average person, addicted to sugar. I actually gave up soda for a month before this diet, but as soon as there was a twelve pack in my house, I couldn’t resist. If you are like me, then I suggest you save yourself. Just don’t buy things that you don’t want to eat. It’s ten times easier to resist the urge to buy something than it is to resist the urge to eat something that you’ve already bought.
